Paso de La Sierra

This corridor stretches from Volcano Masaya across the Sierras de Managua and west to the coast of Carazo Province. The area includes transitional forests with lush shade grown coffee farms, and also the largest mature tracts of dry tropical forest in the country.

The importance of this corridor is apparent when considering the benefits it provides to the Nicaraguan people. Paso de la Sierra literally serves a pulmon or lung for city of Managua. The corridor area also protects the aquifers that give drinking water to more than half of the country’s population.

Nicaraguan citizens are the beneficiaries of the clean water, clean air, and firewood produced in the Paso de la Sierra.

Paso Pacífico is very busy in the Paso del Istmo, so our work in the Paso de la Sierra is focused on establishing relationships with landowners and local governments. We are also designing projects for the future.
